As the United States celebrated July 4th this week, we look through the archives at a slice of Americana in the north-east at the American School.

Now called the International School Aberdeen, the American School was established in 1972 in Cults at the site of a former hospital.

Pupils from the school would regularly bring the best of Broadway to the Granite City with performances of Grease, Guys and Dolls and That’s The Spirit being particular highlights.

The pictures below date back as far as 1975 when a delegation from the school were going to the Netherlands for a mini United Nations conference.

Did you go to the American School? What are your memories of it and the north-east?
