Coronavirus: 32 new cases across the north and north-east as Scottish total reaches 2,310

A further 32 people have tested positive for coronavirus in the north and north-east of Scotland in the past 24 hours.

The latest figures from the Scottish Government show that the number of cases in Grampian has risen 22 from 86 to 108.

Highland cases have risen seven from 51 to 58, while Shetland, Orkney and the Western Isles each have one additional case each.

Shetland’s total is now 30, Orkney has two cases and the Western Isles three.

The national death toll has risen from 60 to 76.

Across Scotland, there are 2,310 cases, a daily rise of 317.

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon stressed again today that this figure was an underestimate, and that the actual number would be considerably higher.

She also told MSPs at Holyrood today that a temporary hospital being built at the SEC in Glasgow will hopefully not need to be used.

Sturgeon announced earlier this week that the facility should be operational in a fortnight.

But she said today that she hoped the country’s existing hospitals would have enough capacity to cope with the coronavirus crisis.
