It’s a highlight in any golf fan’s calendar, and for the organisers of The Open, it’s also the realisation of many months of careful planning and preparation.

With over 170,000 people expected to descend on Angus between July 15th and 22nd, teams from championship organisers The R&A, the local council, hosts Carnoustie Golf Links, the emergency services and transport providers, have been meeting over the last 12 months to make sure no stone is left unturned.

An event of such a massive scale is expected to provide a tourism boost that stretches beyond Angus, as fans from around the world travel to Scotland for The Open.

From mouth-watering treats for foodies, lessons from the pros, and the ultimate opportunity for autograph hunters, we round up just some of the things to look forward to at Carnoustie.

1.   The Golf!

The renowned Angus links has produced some great Champions in the past. And with some of golf’s biggest names lined up to play next month, including Tiger Woods, fans are in for a real treat. World-class facilities will mean you can easily follow the action, with thousands of public seats located around the course, and all free of charge to spectators.

2.   Food and drink

There will be a variety of stands set up around the Spectator Village and on the course selling great-tasting, locally-sourced food, as well as hot and cold drinks. And you don’t have to miss the golf while you hang out in the Spectator Village either, with giant TV screens showing the action live.

3.   Fun for kids

As well as gaining free entry, there will be lots for kids to see and do at The Open, whether you’re visiting for the day or even camping there for the week. In the Spectator Village, they can let off steam in the Soft Play Area, try their hand at putting, and put their golf skills to the test in the HSBC Grassroots Skillzone. There will be fun activities all week in the Camping Village, so young ones need never be bored.

4.   Autograph hunting

Bring your family to the Autograph Zone and they’ll get the chance to meet their golfing heroes in person as some of the world’s best players take time out with fans. The big screens around the course will let you know when golfers will be appearing.

5.   It’s easy to get to

Whether you’re travelling by train, bus or car, Carnoustie is just a short journey, meaning you can get to The Open early to enjoy a full day of great golf and family fun.

6.   Camping

You can make a week of it at The Open without great expense by staying at the Camping Village, where a range of two, four and six-person tents with inflatable beds are already pitched and waiting for you. Under 25s with a Youth Ticket for The Open go free.

9.   Improve your golf

You can get tips from the experts by visiting the popular Swingzone where a team of PGA professionals will be offering lessons. Visit early to book your slot.

10.   Get your kids into golf
