Lee McAllister had too much speed and too much punching power as he comfortably beat Ishmael Tetteh at the Beach Ballroom last night to win the Professional Boxing Council vacant Commonwealth and international super-welterweight titles.

Ghanaian Tetteh, a late substitute for countryman Justice Addy, who failed to obtain a visa for the contest, was 11lb over the limit in Thursday’s weigh-in, but his extra bulk counted for little in a one-sided contest ended in the fifth round.

Tetteh arrived with a record of 34 wins from 49 contests. His 50th professional fight of his career is not one he will remember fondly as he was despatched with the minimum of fuss by McAllister.

He was cautious against the Aberdeen Assassin and seemed unwilling to engage whenever McAllister came forward, retreating to the ropes then slipping away before McAllister could land a damaging blow.

The pattern was unchanged for the opening three rounds, but Mc- Allister was the busier of the two and he edged all three before finding his range in the fourth.

The 35-year-old sent Tetteh into the ropes with a quick flurry of punches early in the fifth and it looked a case of when rather than if McAllister would celebrate victory.

He didn’t have long to wait as one short right to the body left Tetteh crumpled in the corner. The Ghanaian rose to his feet but McAllister struck again and he did not fancy facing a third blow.

In the chief supporting bout, Aberdonian Nathan Beattie came up short in his bid to win the vacant PBC lightweight silver international title as he suffered a second round defeat.

Ghana’s Tackie Annan, who weighed in a stone overweight on Thursday, was not lacking in confidence in the opening round and his elusive style made for a frustrating start for the home fighter.

Annan, nicknamed the Super Eagle, found his range in the second, however, in devastating fashion and at the midway point he delivered a thunderous right which dropped Beattie to the canvas to end the contest.

Sandy Robb, originally from Irvine but now based in Nairn, fared better in his bout as he beat Alex San-ders Roldugins, of Latvia, to win the vacant PBC cruiserweight silver title after his opponent was disqualified.

Robb had Roldugins on the back foot from the first round with a huge overhand right swelling his opponent’s left eye badly and a fine left uppercut wobbled Roldugins in the second.

The Latvian edged the third round but received a warning for before the fourth for holding but ignored the referee’s admonishment and, despite being docked a point, then a second, he was disqualified with 10 seconds remaining of the fourth to hand Robb the title.

In the opening bout of the evening Lincoln’s Nathan Decastro extended his 100% record to 10-0 with victory against Edward Belas of Estonia.

It was a mismatch from the first bell with Decastro dropping his opponent to the canvas three times in the opening 52 seconds thanks to a flurry of body shots.
