Scott McKenna was recalled to Scotland's starting line-up.

Aberdeen defender Scott McKenna is in the running for PFA Scotland’s young player of the year award.

McKenna, who has had a breakout season with the Dons, is up against Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos, Celtic’s Kieran Tierney and Lewis Morgan, who is on loan at St Mirren from the league champions.

It is the latest high in a remarkable season for McKenna. He started the season on the fringes of Derek McInnes’ squad but has established himself as a first-team regular, earning two new contracts and a maiden Scotland cap.

He was the subject of several rejected offers in January from English Championship side Hull City, with manager Derek McInnes wanting him to play 100-150 games before he departs Pittodrie.

The 21-year-old will find out on Sunday, at PFA Scotland’s annual awards dinner, if he has added another accolade to his CV.

There are no Dons on the shortlist for the senior prize, with Celtic duo Scott Brown and James Forrest nominated alongside Hibernian midfielder John McGinn and Kilmarnock’s Kris Boyd.
