VIDEO: Brawl at Aberdeen Beach Ballroom looks set to be a knockout

A knockout of a show is expected for the end of March at Aberdeen’s Beach Ballroom.

Aberdeen University Boxing Club put on an annual show every year but this year they hope it will be a true heavyweight of the university sport event scene, with the Ballroom Brawl.

Ross Comrie, President of Aberdeen University Boxing Club, who have been Scottish university champions since 2004, aims to put on an amateur boxing show on Saturday, March 26 with all the theme and energy of a professional boxing night.

Ross said: “I’ve got an amazing ring announcer, entrance music, walk ins, and a few other surprises for the night.   Aberdeen University has been the Scottish University champion every consecutive year since 2004 and as far as I’m aware this is the largest amateur University show in the whole of the UK.”

The boxing show will be a black-tie event with proceeds on the night going to charities such as Samaritans UK and Childreach International.

There will be a massive 12 bouts on the card  with some of the best fighting talent in the north-east battling it out.

The event takes place in the main ballroom of the Beach Ballroom, capacity of 550 and nearly half the tickets are sold so far.

Tickets prices vary.

A £40 ticket includes a seat at a table and a three course meal, and a balcony ticket costing £10 includes sandwiches and other nibbles.

Tables can be booked in groups of 4, 6, 8 or 10.

Ross said: “We’ve got a match between the Scottish heavyweight intermediate champion, and the runner-up from a month ago that’s sure to be a great revenge match.  We’ve got a mixture of male and female matches, with a lot of the male fighters having competed in the recent Scottish Elite championships.  One of the boxers will be turning professional after this season and there’s a lot of promising boxers coming from places like Glasgow, Dundee and Edinburgh to clash with the local talent.

“We’re currently doing a deal where people can get the £40 ticket for £35 if they get in touch with me via: r.comrie.12@aberdeen.ac.uk.

“This ends on Sunday so they’d need to get in touch quickly!”

Aberdeen Unversity Boxing Club is one of the most successful sporting clubs at the university and the most successful university boxing club in the whole of Scotland.

The club has now held the title of Scottish University Champions for 14 years in a row.
