All the signs point to reasons for optimism for Elgin City manager Jim Weir as he prepares for the League 1 play-off semi-finals.
The Black and Whites, who secured the runners-up spot in League 2 on Saturday, head to Broadwood tonight for the first leg against Clyde.
Confidence is not in short supply within the City squad and, Weir contends, with good reason.
He said: “The target all season has been to reach the play-offs as we were disappointed to lose out in the last couple of games last year.
“We got off to a flying start this season and we’ve managed to build on it. To be in the title chase for as long as we were and then finish second is a fantastic achievement for the club.
“It is important in the play-offs to go into them with confidence and we can. We are unbeaten in our last five games and have won our last two, scoring seven goals in the process.
“We’ve got everyone available which is fantastic news, but also gives us options.
“These games will be very exciting but we know we are facing a Clyde side full of experienced players.”
Weir hopes having home advantage for Saturday’s second leg could prove decisive in this week’s double-header against Barry Ferguson’s side.
He said: “Financially, having home advantage for the second leg is good for the club. We had nearly 1,200 at the game on Saturday and that level of support at Borough Briggs has been a big factor in our season.
“When I had my first interview with the chairman Graham Tatters and the board they were very complimentary about the potential of this club and we are starting to see that.
“To lose only one home game all season, and to the champions no less, speaks volumes about the efforts of the players and we recognise our supporters have been the extra man in a lot of those games.
“Hopefully we can give a good account of ourselves tomorrow and then count on their support again on Saturday in the second leg.”
