Jim McIntyre not planning wholesale summer changes at Ross County

Ross County manager Jim McIntyre will not ring the changes to his squad.

Last summer McIntyre signed 13 players while of the 16 who departed, midfielder Martin Woods and defender Paul Quinn have since returned.

The Staggies have enjoyed a successful campaign, winning the League Cup and sealing a top-six Premiership finish.

Dutch attacker Alex Schalk’s decision to sign a new one-year contract last week means only loan signings Gary Woods and David Goodwillie are not under contract at Victoria Park next season, and McIntyre is pleased to be approaching the close-season with a far more settled squad.

McIntyre, who replaced Derek Adams at Dingwall in September 2014, said: “When we came in we knew it would be two transfer windows before we would get the squad we wanted.

“That’s not to say there won’t be more changes, but there won’t be too many. I am always pleased as a manager when I have what should be a quieter summer.”

County are sixth in the Premiership, with Saturday’s 1-0 loss against St Johnstone leaving them five points adrift of the fourth-placed Perth club.

The Highlanders take on Hearts at Tynecastle this weekend, and having suffered three defeats against the Jambos this season, the manager is hoping for a change in fortune.

He said: “Saturday wasn’t one of our better performances this season. We never played well and when you have a number of players not on their game then any team will struggle to win. We conceded a poor goal from a set play and that was disappointing because we had spoken about the importance of set plays in both boxes. Unfortunately, we did not defend it well and it cost us the match.

“The one thing we have done consistently well this season is bounce back, so that’s the aim. We are going to one of the toughest away venues in the calendar. We haven’t beaten them this season, so we want to go there and put in a winning performance.”
