No complaints from Staggies keeper over Motherwell penalty

Ross County goalkeeper Scott Fox had no complaints about the penalty awarded against him which secured Motherwell a 1-1 draw at Victoria Park on Saturday.

Fox’s foul on Scott McDonald was penalised by referee Alan Muir midway through the second half, with Louis Moult scoring to cancel out Liam Boyce’s opener and prevent the Dingwall men, who were later reduced to 10 men following Jay McEveley’s dismissal for a second yellow card, from taking all three points.

It was County’s first home draw in the league for more than two years and former Partick Thistle goalkeeper Fox did not dispute Muir’s call.

He said: “It was a penalty. He got there and took a touch, I had a chance to get there but he got round me.

“If he had shot I would have saved it but he was smart enough and knew what he was doing. It was a penalty and I couldn’t argue with it.”

Fox was disappointed his side did not hold out for all three points but believes his frustration should be taken as a mark of the Highlanders’ progress.

The 29-year-old added: “It finished as a 1-1 draw but I don’t think either side would be happy. We had a lot of chances but then we went down to 10 men, so they would have thought they had a chance. There was always going to be pressure coming from them, I was just trying to keep the team in the game.

“We proved last year in some games we could go down to 10 men and go on to win games.

“It just shows the performance levels and expectation on the players that we’re disappointed we’ve drawn 1-1 even when we were down to 10 men for the last 20 minutes.”

County midfielder Martin Woods remains positive despite his side dropping two points and added: “We held out and stayed strong when we went down to 10 men. But I think we could have had the game wrapped up by then but a defensive error cost us.

“We have got to take the positives out of it, especially as we hung in at the end.

“It was two minutes of carnage, a poor couple of minutes which swung the game around. When we get knocks we seem to react quite well to them and come back at teams. We always create chances, there is real quality in the team.”
