Peterhead midfielder Jordon Brown wants to take inspiration from last season’s 19-match unbeaten run as they bid to turn their League 1 campaign around.

The Blue Toon moved off the bottom of the table after last weekend’s 3-1 win away to Airdrie and are two points clear of Stenhousemuir at the foot of the table.

Jim McInally’s players produced an outstanding run of form last season, which secured their place in the promotion play-offs, although form dipped dramatically as they ended the season with eight straight defeats.

The poor results have carried into the current campaign but former Aberdeen player Brown hopes last Saturday’s result is a springboard for another fine streak ahead of today’s league trip to Albion Rovers.

Brown said: “After how last year ended we wanted to kick on. It was a strange start as we did really well in the Betfred Cup, winning our group and beating Dundee 2-1 which was respectable.

“That just made our start to the league season all the more frustrating.

“We started better last year than we have done this but we are capable of another run as we know we are a good side.

“It’s important we now go on a run like last season. A few results can put us back in the mix, as it is a tight league in which anyone can beat anyone.”

Brown has been impressed by today’s opponents, who are fourth in the table and six points ahead of the Blue Toon.

He said: “Since they were promoted from League 2, Albion Rovers have made Cliftonhill a really tough place to go.

“They beat Livingston 2-1 away from home last week and they drew 2-2 with us at Balmoor.

“They are a good side but last week’s result helps us. Performances have improved in the last few weeks but to finally get a result and score a few goals was a lift for everyone.”

Brown has had to be content with a substitute’s role but is eager to force his way back into McInally’s team and the 23-year-old added: “It’s been a frustrating season for me so far, especially after last year when I played most of the games.

“I’m desperate for a goal. I came on and nearly scored one last week but I want to show I’m ready to play when I’m called on.”
