Boyce backs fellow attackers to hit goal trail

Ross County forward Liam Boyce reckons it is only a matter of time before his fellow Staggies attackers join him in hitting the goal trail.

Boyce has stormed to the top of the Premiership goalscoring charts, having found the net 13 times in the opening 21 games of the season.

The Northern Ireland international has netted six of County’s last nine goals, which has coincided with an improved run of form which has catapulted Jim McIntyre’s men into the top six. Boyce has predominantly played alongside Craig Curran, who has not found the net since November, while Dutchman Alex Schalk, who has mainly been used as a substitute, is without a goal since October.

Boyce is confident his fellow forwards will regain their own goalscoring form after County return to action with a Scottish Cup tie against Dundee United on January 21.

Boyce said: “I think we just need to keep doing what we’re doing. There are a couple of our boys who need a break – the ball has been dropping in and around the box but not falling to any of our players. We just need to keep getting in the right places and doing the right things. Eventually we’re going to get goals.”

Boyce’s own return to form earned him a starting appearance for Northern Ireland in a 3-0 friendly defeat against Croatia in Belfast in November and he is determined not to let the winter break halt his momentum. The 25-year-old added: “I didn’t score in the Betfred Cup at the start of the season, so I had a bit of a slow start to the season. Once the league came, I started to score and got my confidence up.

“I go through spells where I don’t score and then I just keep on scoring. I’ll try to keep it going for as long as I can.”
