Adam Rooney’s goal in 12 seconds on Saturday may have been quick, but it wasn’t the only fast goal scored in the Scottish Cup.

We take a look back at some of the fastest cup goals in living memory.

1) Donald McCallum (2015) – 19 seconds

After some neat passing at the back after kick-off, the Sons got a lucky break when an Alloa tackle and a neat knock on sent the ball straight to the feet of Donald McCallum.

The young player took the ball inside to his left foot before hitting a low drive past the outstretched Andy McNeil in the Wasps goal. It set the side on course to a thumping 5-0 victory in the third round tie. They would go on to beat Queen of the South before being beaten 5-0 by Dundee in the fifth round.

2) Harry Forrester (2016) – 13 seconds

Last year’s quarter final between Championship side Rangers and Premiership contingent Dundee looked like a close run thing on paper. But after 13 seconds, the Glasgow side were on their way to a comfortable victory.

Once again, it was a defensive error which saw Forrester get possession of the ball. He dribbled his way in to the box before firing in a powerful shot from a narrow angle. Rangers would go on to beat rivals Celtic in the semi-final before losing to Hibs in the final.

3) Johnny Russell (2013) – 13 seconds

When Dundee United passed the ball back to their defence after kick-off, it looked like they were going to keep possession of the ball. But when a United defender launched a long ball to the head of Jon Daly, he flicked it perfectly in to the path of strike partner Johnny Russell.

The striker’s neat volley left Neil Alexander with no chance. It was the perfect start for the Tangerines who would go on to win 3-0 and progress to the quarter final, where they would beat neighbours Dundee. They would ultimately crash out to Celtic at Hampden in the semi-final.

4) Adam Rooney (2017) – 12 seconds

Saturday’s early goal almost straight from kick-off was even more impressive – as it came from the Hib’s kick-off. After losing the ball almost straight away, the Edinburgh side won it back seconds later.

A misplaced Darren McGregor pass fell to the feet of Adam Rooney who skipped past the sliding Efe Ambrose to smash the ball in to the bottom corner. It was a great start to the match for the Dons, and they would go on to reach the final with a 3-2 win.

5) John Hewitt (1982) – 9.6 seconds

While all of the above goals might have been fast, they pale in comparison to John Hewitt’s effort for the Dons in 1982, the fastest in Scottish Cup history.

The striker scored after just 9.6 seconds, to send the Reds on course to cup glory. Hewitt would go on to score the winning goal against Real Madrid in the Cup Winner’s Cup final in the following season.
