Craig Gunn: Time for Elgin to take chances

Elgin City attacker Craig Gunn believes the Black and Whites must show more edge in today’s Scottish Cup second-round tie against Forres Mechanics at Borough Briggs.

After a positive start to the campaign, City have suffered marginal defeats in their last three League 2 games.

However, Gunn believes he and his fellow forwards must snap up the chances they are presented with, starting in today’s visit of the Can-Cans.

Gunn said: “The past few results have been disappointing.

“We’ve only lost by the odd goal but playing a Scottish Cup tie gives us the chance to forget about that.

“We’ve been playing well in games.

“It’s not as if teams have created many more chances than us, we just need to be more clinical with the chances we do get. In tight games, teams have simply taken their chances.”

Forres also approach the game on the back of three straight defeats, however Gunn is under no illusions Charlie Rowley’s side will provide a demanding match. Gunn added: “We know it will be a tough test against Forres. They are a good physical side.

“However, we will not be doing anything differently.

“We will be trying to take our chances early to give ourselves a good chance of going through.

“It’s a derby in the Scottish Cup, so I would like to think the supporters will come out in force.

“We know what Highland League sides are all about.

“They defend well and get behind the ball in good numbers.

“We’re the home team, so it’s up to us to try and take the game to them.

“Hopefully, we can be more clinical than we have been, and get ourselves into the draw for the next round.”
