Aberdeen return to action against Hamilton Accies tonight at Pittodrie in the quarter finals of the League Cup.

The Dons fell to a 3-0 loss against Accies last Friday but will be hoping to put up a better fight as they try to retain their League Cup crown.

  • Nicky Low is a doubt for Aberdeen’s League Cup quarter-final with Hamilton on Wednesday after suffering a knock in a development game against Celtic last week.
  • Clark Robertson misses out again due to his thigh injury.
  • Captain Russell Anderson is unavailable as he continues his recovery from a knee injury.

Hamilton Accies team news

  • Martin Canning has returned to fitness and could replace the suspended Hendrie.
  • Jon Routledge returns to fitness after a five month absence and may make his return against the Dons.

Did you know?

  • The last time the teams met in a cup competition was February 2008 when the Dons won 1-0 in the Scottish Cup, courtesy of a Zander Diamond goal.
  • Aberdeen have won the League Cup six times, the most recent success coming last season.
  • Hamilton have never won the League Cup.

Derek McInnes says

“It’s not about revenge. We really enjoyed the experience last season of winning the trophy. It’s our trophy until someone beats us and we want to do well again this year.

“We’ve not conceded a goal in all the ties so far, we’ve got a home tie and we hope we can get the benefit of that, but we know we are up against tough opposition. Nobody is going to give us the tie.

“We’re going to have to work very hard for it but it was the same last year; any success we had was because we worked hard for it.

“For us it’s important that we are better than we were a couple of weeks ago. We weren’t good enough against Hamilton and they rightly deserved to win the match.”

Alex Neil says

“The pressure will always be on the bigger team.

“They got beat here not so long ago and will have a point to prove.

“I can imagine their fans won’t be happy that they lost to a smaller club like Hamilton and they will be looking to put that right

“The players have personal pride as well but it is the same as us.

“We lost on Saturday and we will be looking to bounce back.”
