Ross County attacker Brian Graham has nothing to prove to former club

Ross County forward Brian Graham says he has nothing to prove when his former club Dundee United visit Victoria Park on Saturday.

Graham had a frustrating two-year spell at Tannadice after joining from Raith Rovers in 2013, being restricted to just 13 starts in his first season before spending the following campaign on loan at St Johnstone.

The 27-year-old believes he proved his Premiership capabilities by scoring 10 goals in 28 appearances for Saints last season, helping the Perth men finish above their Tayside rivals and qualify for the Europa League.

After opting to join the Staggies on a free transfer in the summer, Graham says there is no added motivation for him other than to help County continue their fine start to the season which has seen them win three of their six games.

Graham said: “I don’t need to prove myself. I did that last season at St Johnstone. I went out on loan and scored a lot of goals that helped them into Europe.

“I’ve got nothing to prove to Dundee United. The situation was Jackie McNamara never played me – it’s as simple as that.

“I’m at Ross County now and I’m looking forward to Saturday’s game.

“We’ve started the season particularly well, and we’ve got another tough game on Saturday with United coming here.

“It’s another game we’ll look to win to kick us up the league.”

Graham made his first start for County in the Dingwall side’s 2-0 victory against Ayr United in the second round of the League Cup on Tuesday.

Having been left on the bench for all five of the Staggies’ Premiership matches so far, the Glasgow-born attacker is determined to force his way into the starting line-up.

However, with fellow attackers Craig Curran and Liam Boyce having already scored seven goals between them this season, Graham knows competition is strong.

Graham added: “It is frustrating. I felt I had a good pre-season and when I’m not playing I’m disappointed. I want to be playing every game but the boys have done really well since I came in, so I just need to bide my time.

“I thought I did OK against Ayr. I probably should have had a goal but I thought my allround play was good enough.

“Craig and Liam are good players. Between the three of us we’ve got good attacking options.”
