McIntyre demanding greater consistency from Staggies

Ross County manager Jim McIntyre has warned his side it will drop out of the Premiership top six unless the Staggies find consistency at the business end of the campaign.

The Staggies have struggled to string a sequence of results together recently and have recorded back-to-back league victories only twice this season.

Nevertheless, County have remained in the top-six through the majority of the campaign.

County sit fifth in the table, with nearest challengers Dundee just a point behind and Highland rivals Caley Thistle two points behind in seventh.

There is little margin for error and McIntyre said: “We know our consistency levels over the last couple of months has been the reason for our results.

“It’s been indifferent from week to week. We put some good results together over the Christmas period – back-to-back wins.

“We lost the derby and we had the two Dunfermline cup games that we managed to get through, and then lost against Aberdeen.

“If we want to remain in the top six, our consistency levels need to improve in the next 10 games – it’s as simple as that.

“This is where we make our mark, because there’s no coming back. The timeframe is not there.

“We’ve got 10 games between now and the split and we’ve got to maximise as many points as possible and show better consistency.

“We know exactly what we need to do, it’s about going out there and doing it.

“We’re still scoring goals, but we’ve got to make sure we don’t need to score three or four goals to win a game. That’s equally as important.

“We win or lose games as a team, whether that’s creating chances or defending. It’s not the backline, or the frontline, or the midfield. It’s together.”

McIntyre confirmed attacker Craig Curran is nearing a return, having been sidelined due to a head knock.

The Englishman could return for Saturday’s Premiership trip to Motherwell and McIntyre added: “He wasn’t too far from making it against Aberdeen. He came in on the morning and just didn’t feel right. He’s free of concussion now, but he’s still getting headaches, and at times we’ve got to respect that.”
