Ten man Ross County scored a dramatic late winner against Aberdeen to move into the top six.

Ryan Dow’s late header won the game for County to leave the Dons seven points adrift of second placed Rangers.

Aberdeen made one change to the starting 11 names for the midweek game against Motherwell which was abandoned due to floodlight failure with Wes Burns starting in place of Peter Pawlett.

Hosts Ross County made one change from the goalless draw at Dundee last weekend with captain Paul Quinn returning to face his former club. The defender replaced the suspended Jay McEveley,

The Dons forced a couple of early corners but it was the home side who had the first chance of the game with Liam Boyce setting up Tony Dingwall who saw his first shot from 12 yards parried by Aberdeen goalkeeper Joe Lewis before Graeme Shinnie managed to deflect Craig Curran’s effort from the rebound past the post for a corner which came to nothing.

In an end to end encounter the Dons responded with a long range bouncing effort from Kenny McLean which County goalkeeper Scott Fox turned round the post.

It was a case of which team would succumb first and it was the Dons who conceded the opening goal when Christopher Routis was given space to run towards the Aberdeen penalty area before releasing Michael Gardyne whose driven ball across goal was converted at the back post by Liam Boyce for his fourth goal in five games.

The home side pushed forward in search of a second and it took some fine goalkeeping from Joe Lewis to deny Andrew Davies and Craig Curran twice from making it 2-0 before the break.

Aberdeen chances were less frequent but Scott Fox did well to keep out McLean’s free kick as the Dons probed for an equaliser.

The introduction of Niall McGinn and Adam Rooney in the second half helped the Dons draw level in the 68th minute with Northern Ireland international McGinn firing Shay Logan’s driven ball across goal past Fox to make it 1-1.

Lewis made a fine save to keep out County substitute Alex Schalk’s effort before the home side were reduced to 10 men in the 82nd minute when Kenny van der Weg was shown a straight red card for a lunging challenge on Jonny Hayes as he tried to break clear down the right wing from the halfway line.

The Dons sent on Miles Storey as they chased a winner but it was the home side who got it when substitute Ryan Dow beat Lewis with a looping header from Andrew Davies’ header in the box.
