Scott Brown: Made his first appearance for the Dons in a 4-1 friendly victory at Brechin City.

Aberdeen goalkeeper Scott Brown is ready to face Daugava Riga in the Europa League should he get the nod ahead of Jamie Langfield.

The 29-year-old made his first appearance for the Dons in last night’s 4-1 friendly victory against Brechin City.

Brown was rarely troubled during the 90 minutes at Glebe Park and will have to wait to see if Jamie Langfield is reinstated for Saturday’s friendly against Arbroath.

The Englishman was first choice goalkeeper at Cheltenham Town for the majority of his nine years with the club.

However he knows what it is like having to watch from the sidelines, having been replaced by Jack Butland when he spent a year on loan at Cheltenham.

And, with next week’s Europa League first qualifying round match against FK Daugava Riga at Pittodrie fast approaching, Brown is excited about the possibility of facing the Latvians.

He said: “Just to be involved in a team that is going to play in Europe is a great opportunity and one that doesn’t come along every day.

“There is a positive feel about the club and the dressing room and everyone has made me feel very welcome since I arrived.

“We will take each game as it comes and then we will see where it takes us.”

“If Jamie plays I will be right behind him and if I play I am sure Jamie will be right behind me.

“I think I had played something stupid like 108 games in a row at Cheltenham and then the manager took Jack Butland in.

“I got right behind Jack and I wanted him to do well. He has gone on and had a fantastic career.

“If you are not playing then you need to work harder to get in the team and that is what I did.”
