McInnes will be patient in striker hunt

Aberdeen manager Derek McInnes says he won’t be rushed in his search for new signings.

The Dons are still looking for another forward to bolster his attack after releasing Scott Vernon, Josh Magennis and Calvin Zola at the end of last season.

But McInnes says he is prepared to wait to recruit the right player rather than panic buy ahead of the new season.

When asked if he expected any transfers to be completed before tomorrow’s Europa League first qualifying round match against Daugava Riga, McInnes said: “I can’t see it.

“We could jump at one or two things at the minute and get one or two in but I am mindful that it is a long season.

“I want to be as sure as I can before doing that.

“I think it is important for us to look at it that way and hold our nerve and remain patient.

“We need to try to bring in one or two who can help us during the campaign and not just for these two games.

“However I realise how important these two games are.

“We may look a bit short in one or two areas but I am confident we have a squad who can get through this tie and that can give us more time to make better decisions.”
