Aberdeen FC: Ash Taylor says team don’t fear Celtic

Ash Taylor: The Englishman joined the Dons in the summer.

Aberdeen defender Ash Taylor reckons the Dons have nothing to fear when they head to Celtic Park this weekend.

The Reds defeated the Hoops at Parkhead in the fifth round of the Scottish Cup last season and Taylor sees no reason why Derek McInnes’s side can’t record another win in Glasgow.

The Hoops have made a stuttering start to the new campaign, having taken only seven points from their opening four matches in the Scottish Premiership, while they have also been dumped out of the Champions League twice.

Taylor is eager to pile on the misery when the sides meet at lunchtime on Saturday. He said: “It’ll be my first time playing at Celtic Park, so it will be a great experience.

“It is going to be all about working hard as a team if we are to go there and get a result. Aberdeen won twice against Celtic last season, so there is nothing to fear.

“We just have to go there and be positive that we can get a result.”

The Dons also made a slow start to the new campaign, having tasted defeat twice already to Dundee United and St Johnstone.

However, the Reds signed off with a 2-0 win against Partick Thistle before the international break and Taylor says confidence in the camp is high.

He added: “It was good to go into the international break on the back of a good performance. It was a fantastic display from everyone against Partick. We have six points from 12 and some of the lads were saying that was exactly the same position we were in last year after four games. There is more to come.

“We had a lot of hard European games before the league campaign started but the confidence and belief was there in the win against Partick.

“We showed that we are capable of scoring good goals in that game so we are feeling positive.”

Aberdeen captain Russell Anderson will miss Saturday’s match after undergoing knee surgery, while Clark Robertson is a doubt after suffering a thigh strain on Scotland under-21 duty.

However, Jeffrey Monakana is nearing full fitness after a back injury.
