Derek McInnes keeps faith with Dons after Accies defeat

Derek McInnes: The Aberdeen manager wants his side to cut out the defensive mistakes.

Aberdeen manager Derek McInnes insists his side will come good following Friday’s shock 3-0 defeat by Hamilton Accies.

The Pittodrie side are sitting sixth in the Scottish Premiership after taking 16 points from their opening 10 matches in an inconsistent start to the 2014-15 campaign.

The Dons will look to return to winning ways this Friday against Motherwell, who finished second last season but are currently second bottom after a dismal start to the new term.

Despite suffering a fourth defeat of the season, McInnes believes his squad is strong enough to emulate last season’s success when the club finished third and lifted the League Cup.

But the Aberdeen manager admits his side must eradicate the defensive lapses which have seen them concede nine times in four matches.

He said: “We have got good players here.

“First and foremost we need to make ourselves difficult to score against.

“We have got enough good experience and good players to defend properly and better than we did against Hamilton.”
