Celtic manager Ronny Deila today confirmed the club may take their appeal against Aleksandar Tonev’s racism charge all the way to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
The Bulgarian winger was found guilty of racially abusing Aberdeen defender Shay Logan and was handed a seven game ban, Celtic have appealed the decision with the SFA but Deila today said they will take their case further, if need be.
Deila said: “We don’t believe Aleksandar is a racist.
“We have to do everything in our power to get this away from Aleksandar.
“It’s been word against word and they are thinking the other guy is telling the truth and Tonev is lying, and for me that’s not how a court should be, for me it should be real proof.
“This is a very serious accusation and you have to absolutely know you’re right. If it’s still going to go on and there’s no proof we will have to do everything we can to help Alex.”
Tonev’s initial appeal with the SFA will be heard on Thursday.
