Dundee United v Aberdeen: Sean Dillon believes United can leave Dons despondent

Dundee United captain Sean Dillon will be charged with the task of halting Aberdeen’s attackers today.

The Tangerines stopped the Dons from scoring on August 10 – the opening game of the Scottish Premiership campaign – as they secured a 3-0 win at Pittodrie.

Dillon knows Aberdeen will be determined to avenge the loss today, but is confident his side can leave the Dons despondent again.

He said: “There will certainly be a lot of attacking talent on display.

“I know a few of their players and they have Adam Rooney and David Goodwillie in their team.

“But we also have a lot of talent and Nadir Ciftci was back in form up at Ross County last Friday.”

The Dons visit Tannadice with memories still fresh of their 3-0 home defeat to the Tangerines.

Ryan Dow opened the scoring from the tightest of angles that day after a defensive blunder by Ashton Taylor. Gary Mackay-Steven then made it 2-0 to the visitors just before the break before United substitute Chris Erskine steered the ball home in the final seconds of the match.

It was a sore one for the Dons, who had been determined to show they deserved the tag of pre-season favourites to finish as best of the rest behind champions-elect Celtic.

The Tangerines moved top of the table that day and have been back and forth since.

They sit in third spot, with the Dons just one place and three points behind them.

Dillon said: “It doesn’t matter if we’d won 10 games or lost 10 games, we still want to win the next one.

“I can’t imagine Aberdeen will be up for the game any more or less than they would have been had they won that first game of the season.

“They will want to catch us and they’ve been picking up results. Aberdeen have quietly moved up the table into fourth but I would expect them to be there, it’s not a surprise to me.
