Former Aberdeen defender Calvin Ramsay has been called into the Scotland squad for the first time, just eight days after his Liverpool debut.

Pittodrie youth academy graduate Ramsay made his debut for Liverpool as a substitute in the 2-0 Champions League defeat of Napoli last Tuesday.

Now, the 19-year-old has been selected for Steve Clarke’s squad for an away friendly against Turkey on Wednesday, November 16.

Aberdonian Ramsay becomes the fourth SFA Performance School graduate to be named in a senior squad, following in the footsteps of Billy Gilmour, Nathan Patterson and Leah Eddie.

Ramsay was transferred to six-time European champions Liverpool in a deal that could be worth up to £8 million to Aberdeen.

The Dons received an initial £4.5m and could pocket up to £3.5m in additional add-ons should the teen reach certain milestones with the Anfield club.

Ramsay was introduced for his Liverpool debut as a late substitute for England international Trent Alexander-Arnold against Napoli and made his first start in Wednesday’s Carabao Cup tie with Derby County.

Calvin Ramsay comes on for Trent Alexander-Arnold to make his Liverpool debut.

Teen Ramsay described his Liverpool debut as a “dream come true” and his family had travelled down to Anfield to witness it.

The win against Serie A leaders Napoli secured Liverpool’s progression to the knock-out stage of the Champions League, and they will now face Real Madrid in the last 16.

Lewis Ferguson recalled to squad

Former Aberdeen midfielder Lewis Ferguson has also returned to the Scotland squad.

Ferguson was left out of the previous squad for the Nations League group games as boss Clarke wanted him to focus on settling in at Bologna.

This summer Ferguson secured a £3m transfer from Aberdeen to Serie A Bologna.

Ferguson made his first start for Bologna in a 3-2 away loss to league leaders Napoli on October 16.

He has started the last four games since that appearance against Napoli – all wins.

Ferguson also scored in back-to-back Serie A matches against Lecce (2-0 win) and Monza (2-1 win).

There are six other players with links to Aberdeen FC or the Granite City in Clarke’s squad for the Turkey friendly – former Dons Scott McKenna, Ryan Jack, Kenny McLean, Ryan Christie and Ryan Fraser are all included, as well as Dyce-raised Stuart Armstrong.

Scotland are boosted with the return of captain Andy Robertson (Liverpool), who returns after missing the last camp through injury.

Nathan Patterson (Everton) and Kieran Tierney (Arsenal) have also recovered after suffering injuries during those UEFA Nations League fixtures.

Callum McGregor (Celtic) and Aaron Hickey (Brentford) are both sidelined and therefore miss out.
