Dons defender Shay Logan warns Celtic “Aberdeen aren’t going away”

Aberdeen defender Shay Logan is dreaming of a final day Premiership title decider against Celtic.

The Dons can go level on points with the Hoops with a victory at Dundee tomorrow – although the champions have two games in hand.

The Hoops may be favourites to retain the title, but 27-year-old Logan is confident the Dons are ready to take full advantage should Ronny Deila’s side trip in the final 11 matches.

The sides will meet at Pittodrie after the split and Logan would love nothing more than a winner-takes-all showdown on the final day.

He said: “We aren’t going away.

“We are going to try to win every game and see where it takes us.

“Celtic have put themselves in a very good position for the treble.

“We know that means more games for them and playing for a team such as Celtic there is increased expectation and pressure.

“Everyone wants Celtic to slip. They have to cope with the pressure, but we can’t concentrate on them.

“We have to focus on ourselves. Hopefully it goes to the end of the season and maybe a last game decider.

“The atmosphere for that one would be amazing.

“Hopefully we can keep putting the pressure on them and they slip before we play them next.”

Logan knows exactly what it is like to be involved in such end of season drama.

The Mancunian was part of the Brentford squad which missed out on promotion from League 1 on the final day of the season, April 27, 2013.

He said: “We went into the last game of the season, at home, needing a win to go up and we were playing Doncaster who needed a draw. We got a penalty in the 90th minute, missed it, and they went down the other end and James Coppinger scored to win the match, promotion and the league.

“It was hard to take at the time, but I love all that sort of stuff.

“Football is all about pressure. I don’t want to be going into a game feeling the same emotions all the time.

“I want the crowds cheering and booing, I like all of that.

“If we win against Dundee on Saturday it will put more pressure on Celtic. They will still have two games in hand to go six points ahead, but we just need to do what we have to do.”

Aberdeen will face Dundee United in the final match before the Premiership split.

The January 31 meeting was postponed because it coincided with the League Cup semi-final between the sides, which Dundee United won 2-1.

United will now visit Pittodrie on Saturday, April 18 with a 3pm kick off.
