Aberdeen goalkeeper Danny Ward insists he and his Dons team-mates are ready to show their resilience as they return to action against Ross County on Friday.

The Dons’ excellent eight-game winning start to the campaign has hit a bump in the last couple of weeks after back-to-back defeats in the Scottish Premiership.

Champions Celtic have closed the gap on Derek McInnes’ side to a point but Ward, who has been on international duty with Wales, is confident Aberdeen will respond strongly.

He said: “It is important we regroup and go again and there is no reason why we can’t go on another winning run.

“There is a great team spirit in the dressing-room and we are determined to get back to winning ways.

“We have to show a real fighting mentality and put those defeats behind us. We didn’t get carried away when we were winning games and we can’t get too low after the defeats. We know we’re a good side.”

Ward, who is on a season-long loan at Pittodrie from English Premier League side Liverpool, is enjoying life in Scottish football as he prepares to complete the first quarter of matches in the Scottish Premiership on Friday.

He has thanked Dons manager McInnes for helping him settle in Scotland and is eager to repay his faith in him in this campaign.

He said: “I had a good chat with him before I signed and he really sold the club to me.

“I was already keen to come to Aberdeen but what he had to say was really the cherry on top. He’s been brilliant to me since I came to Pittodrie and I am really enjoying working under him.

“It certainly helps that I got in the team quickly as I wouldn’t have wanted things to fester on my mind if I hadn’t been playing.

“The fact that you get chucked straight in means you don’t really think about it at all, so it has helped me settle in quickly.

“I only knew a few bits and bobs about Scottish football before I came here and I got a bit of stick from the players back down the road. But I have been impressed with the quality so far as it is a really competitive league where anyone can get a result against anyone else.”
