Aberdeen FC: Shinnie vows to turn club’s form around

Graeme Shinnie: Not included in the Scotland squad to face Italy and France.

Aberdeen defender Graeme Shinnie has vowed to help the Dons stop the rot after they suffered a fourth successive defeat on Friday.

A double from Ross County forward Brian Graham consigned Derek McInnes’ Reds to defeat at Dingwall, which allowed Celtic to leapfrog the Reds into the Premiership’s top position with a 1-0 win against Motherwell on Saturday.

The recent downturn followed an excellent start to the campaign, which saw the Pittodrie side win their first eight league games.

Former Caley Thistle captain Shinnie has set his sights on returning to winning ways, starting with Saturday’s home fixture against Motherwell.

Shinnie said: “We want to bounce back as quickly as we can.

“We’ve had a few defeats now and it is up to us to get out of that and return to winning ways.

“Maybe it is lucky we had such a good start as the position we’re in is not too bad given the run we’ve been on.

“The run we established at the start of the season has put us in quite a good position.

“If you’re going to suffer a bad run and still be up near the top of the table it is not a bad thing.

“We are all going to stick together and it is down to us to get ourselves out of this poor patch of results.”

Shinnie felt the Dons’ performance against the Staggies was an improvement on their 5-1 defeat by St Johnstone in their previous outing but the 23-year-old accepts the Reds need to be much better in order to return to winning ways.

He added: “I don’t think we played that badly in the game.

“There were a few bits of luck that didn’t go our way and we lost sloppy goals. But, overall, performance-wise it wasn’t too bad.

“Maybe when we were on the winning run luck was going our way. Now we’re on a slump the tide has turned and we’re not getting some of the breaks we were before.

“I’d put some of the performances down to us as a team.

“St Johnstone, we know, was us – we can’t blame anyone else.

“As a team we maybe need to work harder. We’ll focus on that in the next game and try and get back to keeping a clean sheet.”
