Recently retired midfielder Barry Robson will remain at Pittodrie next season after agreeing to become part of the Dons’ coaching staff.

The 37-year-old announced he was hanging up his boots after Sunday’s 4-0 defeat by Ross County to focus on a new career in football management.

Robson, who was capped 17 times by Scotland and played for a host of clubs including Celtic, Dundee United, Middlesbrough and Caley Thistle, will be part of Derek McInnes’ backroom team next term.

He said: “I wanted to stay in football and, although there were a few possibilities on the go, to remain here at Pittodrie was just a no-brainer.

“These are exciting times for Aberdeen and I’m just delighted that I can continue to be a part of that.

“I would like to manage one day and this is a great way to learn the ropes from the current management team as well as hopefully being able to pass on some of the things I’ve learned as a player to the younger lads here.”
