Elgin City midfielder Russell Dingwall feels the Black and Whites have laid the foundations for a charge towards the League 2 promotion play-offs.
City recorded a superb 4-0 victory away to play-off rivals Annan Athletic last weekend, which drew them to within two points of Peter Murphy’s side.
With Stenhousemuir today’s visitors to Borough Briggs, Dingwall says the upcoming period will be crucial for Gavin Price’s men as they aim to generate the momentum they need for a promotion push.
Dingwall said: “If we were beaten by Annan last week that would have put us eight behind, which would be a big gap.
“Now it’s down to two, so there’s everything to play for. Confidence is high after that result, so hopefully we can go on a wee run.
“We won five games on the bounce earlier in the season. We’ve got run of fixtures now against teams we should be looking to pick up points against.
“With the squad we’ve got, we know if we play that way against pretty much any team in the league we can beat them.
“We’ve been playing well, but just not picking up the points we feel we have deserved.
“It was good for everything to come together in what was a massive game for us on Saturday.
“It was probably our best performance of the season last week, coming off a couple of tough results against Cove and Edinburgh City.
“If we play the way we can, we know we will pick up the points.”
Today’s opponents Stenny have experienced a tough campaign since suffering relegation from League 1 last term, with a tally of just four wins leaving Davie Irons’ men two points above bottom-placed Brechin City.
City have failed to defeat the Warriors this term however, with a 1-0 home loss in August followed by a 2-2 draw last month in which the Moray outfit squandered a two-goal lead.
Dingwall, who spent the latter half of last season on loan with Stenny, expects a difficult encounter, with the 22-year-old adding: “I was there for the second half of last season. I know a couple of the boys and people behind the scenes, so it will be nice to see them again.
“Stenny have made a couple of signings in January, so they will be hoping to come on a bit stronger now in the second half of the season.
“The last time they were up in Elgin they beat us, so it was a really tough game and that’s what we expect again.
“Down there in the first half we were excellent, we should have put the game to bed.
“In the second half they came back out strongly and we lost a late goal.
“It will be a tough game – they are fighting for points just like ourselves but hopefully we can get a similar performance and result to last week.”
