Black and Whites are looking to keep up winning streak against Queen’s Park

Brian Cameron wants Elgin City to use their 3-0 victory over Cove Rangers as a platform to make the play-offs.

Elgin face Queen’s Park at Hampden today and then Cowdenbeath next weekend, with both opponents trying to fulfil their own play-off ambitions.

The Borough Briggs side have not made the end-of-season contests since the 2015-16 season, when they were beaten 5-1 on aggregate by Clyde. They have spent the entirety of their SPFL existence in League 2 since joining alongside Peterhead in 2000.

Gavin Price’s side sit fourth in the table, two points ahead of Queen’s Park and two behind Cowdenbeath. However, they have played more games than both their rivals for the play-off spots.

Cameron, who has made more than 300 appearances for his hometown club, wants Elgin to continue their current three-game winning streak and build on their win over the league leaders.

He said: “I think we’ve played better football.

“The pitch isn’t great but when we get the ball down and play, I don’t think there’s a better team in the league than us.

“The last couple of weeks we’ve got a couple of scrappy wins and hopefully that pushes us on.

“We’ve got to take confidence from it. We’ve got a big couple of games coming up against teams around us so we need to keep going.”

Their current run matches only their five-game winning streak in October, with two of those wins coming on the road against Stirling Albion and Brechin City.

They may have to cope this weekend without talismanic striker Shane Sutherland, who came off towards the end of the Cove game with a hamstring injury.

Cameron added: “The play-offs is the aim – we need to get there, with the squad we’ve got. It’ll be a big blow if Shane is missing for a few weeks but we’ll take that as it comes. Someone else will have to step up.”
