Kane Hester thinks Elgin City will manage to replace Shane Sutherland’s goals in the new campaign

Elgin City forward Kane Hester is confident the Black and Whites have the firepower to replace Shane Sutherland’s goals this season.

City have lost talismanic forward Sutherland, who lined up for new club Caley Thistle in their 7-3 friendly victory at Borough Briggs on Saturday.

Although Sutherland was Elgin’s leading scorer on 26 goals last term, former Arbroath forward Hester was not far behind on 19 strikes. With Elgin boss Gavin Price having brought in fellow-attackers Joel MacBeath, Josh Peters and Smart Osadolor in recent months, Hester believes the Moray outfit will have goals in their side.

Hester said: “Hopefully there’s a good few goals in the strikers this season, and we can just carry it on into the league starting.

“Losing Shane is obviously a big blow, because what he delivered to the team was outstanding. What boys like Joel, Josh and Smart bring in is really good and it’s different options as well.”

Hester netted a double in the defeat to Inverness, following another brace in a loss to Brora Rangers and a goal in a 9-1 win over Lossiemouth.

Elgin take on Caley Jags in a rematch at Caledonian Stadium on Saturday, as they prepare for their first competitive game at home to Stirling Albion in the Betfred Cup on October 10.
