Elgin City have been handed a double goal-keeping boost after extending Cammy Mackay’s loan until the end of the season and re-signing Marc Waters on a permanent deal.
Mackay is on loan from Caley Thistle but, with the player’s deal due to expire this month, Black and Whites manager Jim Weir has moved to keep him at Borough Briggs for the rest of the campaign.
The 20-year-old will be ineligible to face his parent club in next week’s Scottish Cup fourth-round tie, meaning Waters will be in goal against the Premiership outfit.
Waters spent two months on loan from League 1 side Queen’s Park earlier in the campaign but after his release by the Spiders he has been cleared to join City on a deal until the end of the campaign.
Weir said: “Marc was available at a crucial time in the season and we wanted to make sure we were not left short like we were earlier in the season. We are just trying to protect ourselves from that situation happening again.”
With Mackay and Waters set to compete for the number one jersey for the remainder of the season, back-up goalkeeper Errol Watson could be farmed out on loan. Weir added: “We still have Errol who has not had much game time but has covered for us, particularly in training when we have often struggled to get two goalkeepers. We may loan him out for a month or two.”
