Elgin City midfielder Daniel Moore is determined to escape the rut in today’s League 2 match against Berwick Rangers after a winless streak of six games.
City’s form has dipped recently, which has dealt a blow to their title push and seen Stirling Albion move to within five points in the race to consolidate a play-off place.
Elgin’s last victory was a 1-0 triumph against today’s opponents at Shielfield Park on February 25 and Moore is prepared to win at all costs to halt a poor run he feels is affecting his team-mates’ confidence.
He said: “We haven’t won as many games as we’d have liked recently and I think it does affect us – there’s no point lying about it. We’ve been pretty consistent this season, we’ve been used to winning most games.
“This just brings a different pressure on us. We have to deal with it and get back to winning ways.
“Berwick might feel they’re due a win against us, in the last game down there they were probably better than us but we ground out the win. I would take any sort of win again.”
Elgin’s poor run has been helped little by the absence of leading scorer Shane Sutherland through a torn cruciate ligament, which has ruled him out for at least the rest of the season.
Moore concedes the 24-goal attacker has been sorely missed but says his side must find a way to hit the net without him.
Moore added: “He’s been a loss, which has coincided with our bad run.
“He was scoring goals and creating them and a lot of our play went through Shane.
“We know how long he’s out for, so we’ve just got to get on with it.
“The other lads are different types of forwards to Shane, they play a different game, so we need time to adapt.”
Moore has not started since a 1-0 defeat against Annan Athletic on March 11 but the 28-year-old is eager to force his way back into the team.
He added: “I just had a bit of a dip in form and was probably quite rightly out of the team for the last few games.
“I’m hoping to be back soon, I just have to stake my claim and show what I’m all about by doing my best to help us get promoted.”
