Elgin City manager Jim Weir has tonight left the club to join League 1 side Forfar Athletic.
Weir, who has been manager of Elgin City since November of 2014, takes over the Station Park managerial reins with immediate effect and will attend a scheduled board meeting tomorrow before taking his first training session on Tuesday.
Weir, who has managed Montrose, Arbroath and Brechin City prior to moving to Borough Briggs, replaces Gary Bollan who was sacked last month.
A club statement from the Loons read: “Forfar Athletic chairman Ken Stewart stated that Jim had been the unanimous choice of the Forfar directors for the post following an extensive interviewing process and they were delighted that he has accepted the challenge.
“The chairman also stated how appreciative he was of Elgin City’s co-operation in what was a difficult situation for them and wished them all the best in their quest for a successor to Jim.
“Ken also wished to thank Stuart Balmer and Barry Sellars for their efforts behind the scenes at Station Park over the past two weeks in the preparation of the side for the games against East Fife and Stranraer.”
Weir’s departure comes after his side came from 2-0 down to earn a draw at League 2 leaders Stirling Albion on Saturday.
A statement from the Black and Whites read: “Elgin City regrettably announce the departure of their manager Jim Weir.
“Forfar Athletic approached the club for permission to speak to Jim regarding their managerial vacancy. Jim has agreed to join Forfar.
“Although extremely disappointed we accept his decision and wish him luck, we start the search for his replacement. The club will issue a further statement during the week.”
