Peterhead forward Russell McLean hopes to add to his goal tally this weekend.
Peterhead forward Russell McLean hopes to add to his goal tally this weekend.

Peterhead forward Russell McLean believes today’s derby match against Elgin City could be a classic.

Both teams head into this afternoon’s meeting at Borough Briggs having won three consecutive games.

Former Hearts and East Kilbride attacker McLean is anticipating a high quality encounter between two form sides.

The 19-year-old said: “As a team, we have been playing well.

“We have been playing some decent football and picking up positive results.

“Elgin have also been going well recently.

“They have won their last three games and they are a good team.

“We know to expect a tricky match and we will need to play to our best to get a result at Borough Briggs.

“We have played there already this season and there was a decent crowd there.

“I’m sure it will be the same this weekend.

“It is a derby game and two teams that are playing well so it has the makings of an entertaining game.”

McLean, who started his side’s recent victories against Clyde and Annan, has netted three times for Jim McInally’s side and hopes to add to his tally today.

He said: “I am getting a run in the team now and I feel I am picking up a bit more confidence.

“I just want to do my best.

“It is up to the manager if he wants to change it but I feel I am playing well at the moment.

“Hopefully I can continue that and get a goal this weekend.”
