Elgin City focused on Bo’ness test

Elgin City attacker Craig Gunn insists his side must put thoughts of a glamour Scottish Cup tie aside and first focus on the challenge posed by Bo’ness United at Borough Briggs today.

East Superleague junior champions Bo’ness make the trip to Moray for today’s third-round match, with a place alongside the Premiership elite at stake.

Gunn admits that his knowledge of Allan McGonigal’s side is limited, but the 27-year-old has plenty faith in Elgin’s ability to bounce back from a 4-0 defeat by Albion Rovers.

Gunn said: “We need to put the Albion Rovers result behind us.

“We want to put in a performance against Bo’ness as we know we could get the reward of a big team in the next round.

“However, we need to concentrate on playing Bo’ness first and we know they will be difficult.

“The manager has had people watching them. We just need to focus on ourselves, as on our day we’re a match for everyone.”

The Borough Briggs attacker added: “We are a confident bunch of boys anyway.

“When results go against us we regroup and go again. I’m sure results will start to come for us.

“Normally when Elgin are at home we get quite a big crowd so, with it being a Scottish Cup tie, we’re hoping they can help us again.”

Gunn is pleased to have the chance to work with former Scotland forward John Robertson, whom manager Barry Wilson has drafted in to assist with training.

Gunn hopes he can take some of the former Caley Thistle manager’s tips on board, starting this afternoon.

Gunn added: “It was good to get a different voice to bring different ideas for us to take into the game. We worked on some things. John was a good forward, so anything he can give us is good advice.”
