Elgin City manager Jim Weir wants to carry on the good work of the last two games when his Black and Whites take on Queen’s Park at Hampden in League 2 today.
Elgin have triumphed 3-2 against both Montrose and Annan Athletic in recent weeks, although last weekend’s game against Clyde was postponed.
Although City’s form has improved, they remain bottom of the League 2 table so Weir is determined to keep the victory run going with a victory in Glasgow today.
Weir said: “Coming into the game after back-to-back wins, it’s important to keep that momentum going but we know it will be a difficult game.
“A few weeks ago we still hadn’t won away from home.
“But after getting that monkey off our back we followed it up with another excellent victory with a depleted squad. The guys who came in did particularly well and I can feel the difference in the tempo of training.
“However, we are not getting carried away. We are still bottom of the league.
“We know if results don’t go our way, we could find ourselves in a position of playing catch up again.
“We just need to focus on one game at a time.
“It gives us the opportunity for the first time in weeks to get off the bottom.”
Weir has drafted in Raith Rovers goalkeeper Ross Laidlaw on a one-month loan deal, with Michael Fraser set to miss the next two months after starting a job offshore.
With only teenagers Stewart Black and Euan Storrier on the books, Weir made signing a goalkeeper a priority.
But he has yet to decide whether to play Laidlaw today.
Weir said: “It was im-portant we brought somebody in, although young Stewart did very well against Annan after Michael went offshore.
“Euan is only a kid, so we felt it was an area we needed to strengthen. We’ve been looking to bring in some experience since Michael’s departure.
“While Ross is still young, he does have experience and has played in some big games. He’ll be getting games with us so it’s benefiting both parties.
“It gives us a decision to make.”
Elgin will be without the injured Brian Cameron (back), while the game is likely to come too soon for Shane Sutherland (ankle), although the attacker will travel with the side.
