Elgin City’s new goalkeeper Ross Laidlaw hopes a run of games during his one-month loan with the Moray side can help him win a new contract with Raith Rovers.

Elgin had been on the lookout for a new goalkeeper since Michael Fraser began working offshore a fortnight ago, leaving them with teenagers Stewart Black and Euan Storrier to call upon.

Elgin manager Jim Weir has now drafted in Laidlaw from the Kirkcaldy side and the 22-year-old could make his debut in today’s League 2 match against Queen’s Park at Hampden.

Laidlaw, whose Raith contract expires in the summer, hopes a successful spell at Borough Briggs can help convince Rovers manager Grant Murray he is worthy of an extension.

Laidlaw said: “When I heard about the opportunity to go to Elgin for a month, I just wanted to go and play some minutes.

“I’ve been on the bench for Raith and was in the stand at the weekend.

“This is a chance to play four games, so I’m delighted and looking forward to the first game against Queen’s Park.

“I’ve played about 10 games in the last year but I’m now looking to get a wee run of games.

“It’s not been great having short spells of game time.

“I’m not going to be able to prove anything sitting in the stand, so if I can do well at Elgin we’ll see what happens at the end of the month. I’ll just be taking it a game at a time.

“I am out of contract in the summer, so I thought I might as well go out and get some game time.”
