Elgin City attacker Shane Sutherland has been nominated for the PFA Scotland League 2 player-of-the-year award.

Former Caley Thistle forward Sutherland has scored 12 goals in 38 appearances this season.

The nomination marks a successful second season at Borough Briggs for Sutherland, who joined following his release by Inverness in 2013 and netted 15 times in 40 games last term.

Sutherland is up against Arbroath forward pair Bobby Linn and Simon Murray and Queen’s Park midfielder Paul Woods.

The 24 year-old said: “I didn’t expect it at all. It’s the first award I’ve been nominated for. It’s a great honour to be nominated by my fellow players who obviously feel I’ve stood out in the games we’ve played against them.

“Other players have decided I deserve the nomination, but I take it on behalf of the whole team.

“Now I’ve been nominated I want to win the award, but I know the quality the other three players have.

“Simon, Bobby and Paul all made my team of the year. Simon in particular won a move from Arbroath to Dundee United before being loaned back.”

Sutherland’s goals have helped Jim Weir’s side climb from the bottom of League 2 to fifth place in the space of three months.

Elgin will be assured of a place in the promotion play-offs if they win their final two matches of the season against Annan Athletic and East Fife.
