Fingers on cup pulse at Buckie Thistle

Scottish Cup fever has hit Buckie as Thistle brace themselves for the visit of Championship side Dunfermline.

The third-round tie has been chosen by the SFA as the match of the round, so the trophy will be at Victoria Park for photograph opportunities while foam fingers will be handed out.

With the Pars requesting around 1,000 tickets, and the Jags supporters outnumbering them, Buckie manager Graeme Stewart expects a special atmosphere for the big tie.

Stewart said: “It will be great for the club to have such high prominence and I think it’s the first time the Scottish Cup has been to Buckie so, hopefully, that will attract more supporters. I have been told that Dunfermline are expecting around 1,000 people to travel. That is brilliant news for us financially and it will help to create a real cup-tie atmosphere.

“Although we will start as massive underdogs we are at home and we have been scoring loads of goals this season.

“We will need to be at our best and Dunfermline will have to have an off-day if we are to come out on top.

“We are hoping that they come here and they don’t know much about us.

“They are the favourites but we believe if we perform the way we know we can we have a slim chance.

“I fancy us to score but our hopes depend on whether we can keep them out at the other end as defending has not been our strong point over the last couple of seasons.”
