Broch fire double to seal win over Nairn

Fraserburgh scored goals in either half through Paul Campbell and Jamie Beagrie to leave Station Park with a deserved win from an entertaining game.

These sides may be out of contention for the league title, but were determined and resolute in attack and defence and both teams created a succession of chances throughout the game, hitting the woodwork twice while goalkeepers Ryan MacLeod and Paul Leask were also called into action on a number of occasions to help out their defence.

The match was played at a cracking pace and Fraserburgh were the first to threaten when Marc Lawrence hit the bar with a rising 18-yard effort, but the visitors also had goalkeeper Leask to thank for keeping his side level as he brilliantly palmed a netbound Gary Kerr header to safety.

Still Nairn tried to press and Jordon Macrae was frustrated when his superb overhead kick from 12 yards hit the inside of the post before rolling across the line into Leask’s thankful grasp.

Play was swinging from end to end but the opener came four minutes from the break when Beagrie won a challenge in midfield to drive into the box and roll the ball across the six-yard box for the impressive Campbell to slot in the unguarded net.

It was to prove a decisive moment.

Nairn tried to rally but the Broch took control of the game after the break and added a second on 70 minutes when Beagrie found space in the Nairn box to head home a cross from Nathan Stuart.

Macrae hit the bar again for Nairn before Fraserburgh’s Willie West was frustrated when a fine 25-yard effort was tipped on to the bar by goalkeeper MacLeod as the game entered its latter stages. There were to be no more goals as Fraserburgh took the points and Fraserburgh’s man of the match Jamie Beagrie reckoned his side was worth the win. He said: “They came into the game well and we had to survive the little flurry they had. But we came on strong again towards the end and got the second goal we deserved after our performance.

“We need to show a bit more consistency as we have a good team and if we can string a few wins together then we can climb the table.”
