Brora Rangers caretaker manager Steven MacDonald wants the Dudgeon Park job on a full-time basis.

MacDonald was brought to Brora as assistant-manager at the start of the season by player-manager Grant Munro, who resigned last week.

The 40-year-old former Inverness Thistle, Caley Thistle, Elgin City, Forres Mechanics and Clachnacuddin centre half led the Cattachs to a 6-0 win at Rothes on Saturday.

MacDonald, who has earned his Uefa C coaching badge, said: “Of course I’m interested in the job.

“It is something that very few people would turn down and I’m sure that’s why there will be so many big names applying for the post, as Brora is a great club.

“I do feel I could do the job, but I’m just going to take it one step at a time, I’ve got to try to get the players performing at the highest level they can.

“For whatever reason they haven’t been doing that in recent weeks. Brora need to be winning the league with the ability we have at the club.

“So my main focus is to recapture the intensity I know the players are capable of.

“They showed at Mac-kessack Park they are a very talented squad indeed when applying themselves properly.

“The important thing at the moment is trying to get the players back enjoying their football and play at the high levels they are used to.”

Reflecting on his recent past in the game, MacDonald added: “Last season I had been helping out with the coaching at Clach but there wasn’t really a role for me there as there were too many coaches at the club.

“It is thanks to Grant Munro that I came to Brora as his assistant. I got my C coaching licence last week and I certainly want to keep progressing as I am enjoying what I am doing.

“Being manager of Brora would be a big challenge, but it is one I certainly wouldn’t shirk given the opportunity.

“Everyone wants to enjoy themselves in football, but to do that you have to be winning matches and trophies.

“Hopefully things will go the right way and we keep getting good results and improve performances.”
