Sheran claims evidence decisive in lamenting Yule decision

Cove Rangers manager John Sheran was insistent Blair Yule’s second-half effort crossed the line after hitting both uprights.

Sheran said: “Our club photographer had a photograph showing the ball had crossed the line, but that probably summed it up, I don’t think the officials had their best game.

“Connor Scully scored a fantastic goal and overall we played well. We looked hungry, were up for it and played some great football.

“This is always a very difficult place to come to as Fraserburgh are going to compete. They did, but we played better than I hoped we would, I was really happy with the performance.

“It was a typical Cove versus Fraserburgh game, every time we play them there is controversy and things happening. Our players did well, on another day we would have won the game, but I always see a draw against Fraserburgh as a point gained.”

Fraserburgh manager Mark Cowie was happy with a point and said: “A draw against the champions is always a point gained, rather than two dropped.

“Cove are the best team in the league so we have to be happy to have taken a point from them.

“It was a great game of football for the supporters. Both teams had spells on top and chances although we were maybe clinging on a bit in the last five minutes.

“We know what we are going to get from Cove, they are going to attack and have talent right through their forward line. But credit to my players, they held their heads up and went toe-to-toe with them, although we were a bit unlucky to go in at half time a goal behind.”

Reflecting on what has been an up and down season for his side, Cowie added: “A lot of people have been questioning the character of the team, it may have disappeared of late, but if they had been watching today they would say we definitely still have it.

“Our equaliser came from my younger brother, Ryan, it was a perfect free kick. I have had a bit of a go at him as I felt his distribution could have been better, but when he lined up that free kick I knew it was going to cause Cove trouble. He hit it sweetly and we were all absolutely delighted.”
