Cove continued their march towards the Highland League title with a straight-forward win over Fort William.

The table-toppers took the lead inside the first minute against the division’s bottom club and never looked back. Cove showed the strength of their squad by making five changes to the team which drew 1-1 at title rivals Brora last weekend and still being able to name an imposing line-up.

Alan Redford, Ryan Strachan, Daniel Park and Mitch Megginson weren’t in the Aberdeen team’s pool of players at Claggan Park, while Jamie Masson moved to the bench.

Grant Campbell, Sam Burnett, Eric Watson, Jordon Brown and Paul McManus all started, and the changes did not cause any problems for Cove as they made a blistering start to the game.

The match was only 36 seconds old when Martin Scott fired a shot into the net from 25 yards out.

Brown then doubled the away side’s lead in the 10th minute with a well-taken header.

Cove were denied extending their advantage further by some great saves from home keeper Mateusz Kulbacki.

But the visitors found a way to goal again in the 36th minute through a close-range finish from McManus.

Cove striker McManus doubled his tally early in the second half through a superb 30-yard strike.

Jordan MacRae then made a quick impact having come off the bench by tapping the ball into the net to grab the away team’s fifth of the game.

Brown saw two efforts ruled out for offside, while Kulbacki continued to make some impressive stops in the home goal.

Brown eventually got his name on the scoresheet again late on.

He directed a header into the net following a corner from Masson to complete the rout.

Leaders Cove are now six points clear of second-placed Brora with both teams having played 30 of their 34 games.
