More high fives from imperious Brora Rangers

A double from Andrew Macrae helped Brora maintain their scintillating form with an emphatic win over Nairn County at Dudgeon Park.

Further goals from Martin Maclean and Greg Morrison and an own-goal from Fraser Dingwall saw the home side go nap and bring their total to an impressive 20 goals in four games – with none conceded.

The win keeps leaders Brora three points ahead of Inverurie Locos going into the new year, seven clear of Rothes in third.

Fraserburgh and Buckie complete the top five and both have games in hand over the top three.

Brora player-manager Steven Mackay was impressed with his charges, but feels they need to be more ruthless in front of goal.

He said: “I thought the lads were outstanding today. Every player on the park played at such a high level both with and without the ball. Some of our link-up play was sublime and I cannot believe we only scored five goals.

“I don’t think I have ever seen us create as many chances. The only disappointing thing was that we didn’t take them as the boys deserved more from an incredible performance.”

Gavin Morrison returned to the Brora starting line-up in place of Bjorn Wagenaar in the only change to the side that comprehensively beat Lossiemouth last time out.

Nairn included former Brora forward Scott Davidson, while Tom MacLennan replaced Ryan Macdonald.

Brora were quick out of the blocks and took the lead in the sixth minute when Martin Maclean fired the ball home following a corner.

Dylan Maclean then produced a great save from close in to deny Andrew Macrae before saving at the feet of James Wallace.

The home side’s pressure did pay off with a second goal in the 26th minute, Macrae turning inside his man and placing the ball home from 12 yards.

MacRae then added his second and Brora’s third six minutes later, rifling a superb shot past Dylan Maclean from outside the penalty area.

Jordan Macrae almost made it four early in the second half, but he could only scoop his effort over the bar from close range.

Former Brora striker Davidson was denied when Joe Malin saved his shot from Max Ewan’s cross before Tom MacLennan saw his 18-yard drive deflected over for a Nairn corner.

Maclean produced another excellent save to prevent Macrae from completing his hat-trick just before the hour mark.

Substitute Greg Morrison made it four and put the game beyond Nairn when he fired the ball home with 13 minutes remaining, before Maclean produced another good stop to deny the advancing Paul Brindle.

The visitors’ misery was complete with four minutes to go when Dingwall put the ball in his own net when trying to cut out a cross.
