Paul Brindle admits Brora Rangers would relish the opportunity to play at a higher level.

But the attacker knows the Cattachs still have work to do in the Highland League first.

Brora took a significant step towards the title by beating Fraserburgh 2-1 at Bellslea on Saturday.

Becoming champions again would give the Sutherland outfit the chance to gain promotion in play-off games against the winners of the Lowland League and the team that finishes bottom of League 2.

Having drawn 1-1 with Championship side Morton in the Scottish Cup this term, Brindle believes Brora could compete in the SPFL.

The former Clach player said: “You never know what can happen if we win the league. The teams at the top of the Lowland League are exceptionally strong and the team that finishes bottom of League 2 will be strong.

“We don’t know how it will work out, but we’ve shown against Championship players in the Scottish Cup we can compete. I think everyone would like to test themselves at that level.

“A few of the boys in our team have played at a higher level and some of us haven’t but it would be a great opportunity for us.”

Their victory at Bellslea moves Brora 11 points clear at the top of the Highland League and 20 points ahead of Saturday’s opponents Fraserburgh, who have four games in hand.

Brindle appreciates the significance of the result.

He added: “There’s no doubt Saturday’s result puts us in a very good position. We’re not getting ahead of ourselves, but to get three points against our rivals for the title was a massive result.

“We’re delighted with the win because we knew we’d get a tough game down at Fraserburgh. We soaked up their pressure in the first half and second half we were able to attack a bit more and were good value for our win in the end. We didn’t want to get beat on Saturday and with the way the game panned out we knew we’d get chances towards the end and I was happy to take one.”
