Gary Manson is keen to take on the Wick Academy manager’s job full-time.

The Scorries chairman Pat Miller wants to speak to interim manager Manson about taking the job permanently and Manson hopes to have discussions soon.

The current lockdown has made it difficult to have face-to-face discussions but Manson, a Wick player for 20 years, admits he is already planning for next season.

He took over on a temporary basis following the resignation of Tom McKenna in February. However, his two games were postponed and the season halted after his only game in the dugout, a 4-1 defeat to Brora Rangers.

Manson said: “I’m definitely keen to crack on. We had a few players out of contract at the end of last season and it came to discussions with players, asking what was going to happen next season.

“I said I was keen to stay. As far as planning and my thoughts go, I have always thought I would be there. I’m planning to be there as long as I can be.

“It’s not ideal, not being able to have a face-to-face meeting but I think the chairman knows where I stand and I know where he stands.

“I’m almost certain the club want me to be there and whenever we can, a meeting will take place.”

Manson also spearheaded a significant donation of £1,000 from the players and staff at the club to Chris Aitken, a local teacher who is making personal protective equipment for staff at local hospitals and care homes.

He added: “The players were delighted to help out. The local community come and support us week in, week out so it’s only right we can chip in.

“Everyone knows each other up here, so it’s good to see the players giving back. It’s been a win-win for everyone.”
