Lossiemouth have brought experienced striker Martin Charlesworth back to Grant Park on a one-year deal.

Charlesworth has been without a club since his Huntly contract expired last year, but has trained with the Coasters in recent months.

The 31-year-old previously spent the 2016-17 season with Lossie when his father Charlie was in charge, before moving on to Huntly the following term.

Lossie manager Joe Russell is confident Charlesworth can get back up to speed following a lengthy spell without playing.

Russell said: “It’s great to get him on board. He trained with us a couple of times throughout the season.

“He has been out for a little while with injury so he just needed a bit of extra time, but he has been posting snapshots of his Strava times.

“He has been keeping himself ticking over, but it’s getting him match fit that will be the issue.

“We will give him time to do that, and hopefully he can get back to the form he has proved already.”

Charlesworth is a two-time Highland League winner from his time with Buckie Thistle, and has also had spells with Elgin City and Deveronvale.

Russell feels the forward will be a valuable asset to his young squad, adding: “He will be able to pass on his experience to some of the younger boys who are just in their second or third year in the Highland League.

“He has missed his football so he’s desperate to get back amongst it.

“It’s great he has picked us – I think there were a couple of teams interested in him.

“I don’t know how close he came to agreeing with other teams, but thankfully he chose us.

“He’s had a bit of experience with the boys from being at training, and he has been down to see a few games.

“He knows how close we are to hopefully kicking on and getting ourselves up the table.”
