He’s used to capitalising on mistakes by opposition defenders.

Now Inverurie Locos striker Chris Angus hopes to take advantage of a gap in the market with the launch of an app.

During lockdown Angus’ partner Nicola Lawson came up with the idea for an app which would allow groups of friends to save and spend money as a group through contactless payments on their phones.

The pair are now working on developing an app based on the idea, that they are calling WhipRound.

The Harlaw Park attacker Angus said: “The app idea is basically to allow people to create a digital kitty.

“If you’re out with friends or work colleagues having a few drinks you usually put a kitty together to pay for the drinks with the money in the glass.

“We’re planning to do away with that and the app would allow you to create a kitty digitally on your phone with contactless payments.

“We’ve done our research and it doesn’t seem like there’s anything out there at the moment so we’re looking to bring this to the public.”

Angus and Lawson have had meetings with app developers and they hope within six months to have launched a beta app for testing with the aim to have the final version up and running within 12 months.

Angus, who is an assistant site manager with Cala Homes, added: “We’re hoping to a beta app in the first six months and hopefully launch UK wide within a year.

“There’s no reason why we can’t and we’ve had a few meetings with app developers to get the ball rolling.

“The target market is 20 million people in the UK so hopefully it can be available to them within a year’s time.

“The idea just came into Nicola’s head and we’ve pushed it on from there. It’s snowballed from an idea to where we are now which is in a good place.”

With experts predicting a cashless society in the future Angus hopes their app could gain traction as a result.

He said: “I think there are changes in society and less people are using cash. We’ve read a lot about cashless societies being on the horizon.

“So if we could be at the forefront of that with this app with a good catchy name then hopefully people will use it.

“Cashless and contactless payments are probably used more now than ever before.”
