Davidson insists things are looking up for Huntly

Davidson insists things are looking up for Huntly

Huntly midfielder Neale Davidson insists he and his team-mates can haul the side up the Highland League.

The Black and Golds moved off the bottom courtesy of their goalless draw at Deveronvale on Wednesday and, as title-chasing Formartine United visit Christie Park today, Davidson is looking for more signs of progress. The 23-year-old midfielder, who is two games away from 150 consecutive appearances, said: “Recently we have been looking a lot tighter defensively.

“But it is all about finding the right balance between defending and scoring goals at the other end.

“That is what has been causing us problems this season.

“We are in the middle of a really tough run of fixtures but, with a little bit of luck, I am sure we can string a few wins together and start climbing the table.

“Last season we lost one game 10-0 at Formartine. We are still hurting from that defeat and I’m sure it will be a lot closer this time.”

Formartine manager Steve Paterson has warned his side to take no notice of the Black and Golds’ league position.

He said: “If we don’t work hard it could be a tricky game for us as we are coming off the back of a disappointing 2-0 home defeat by Forres, so it is important that we don’t think that we need only turn up to get a result.

“Huntly are in a false position. They’re not a bottom-five team and it is taking a lot longer for Gregg Carrol to bed in his players at the club than he first thought.”
